I completely forgot about writing a post yesterday!  Does this mean I failed the challenge?  Ah well.  Yesterday’s topic was music from a game released in my birthyear (1992), and today’s topic is music covered by a different artist.  So let’s just knock them out in one post.

  • Day 18: Music from a Game Released in My Birthyear
  • Game: Axelay
  •  Track: Colony

Like Chrono Trigger, Axelay is another SNES game I discovered in adulthood after hearing its music.  I’ve played it some but never beaten it.  The soundtrack is pretty short, but it’s straight bangers.  Worth a straight listen if you like Colony.

I love the way this song evolves.  The song starts with what I can only describe as a Michael Jackson-esque instrumental groove (with some killer drums btw).  Around 1:18 it shifts into, a section that gives heavy Carpenter Brut vibes (synth backed by guitar, drums, chorus, etc.).  It goes back to the A section only to quickly steer right back to a new third section!  Then back to A for reals.

Let me begin by saying, I don’t think this is what the prompt is intending, but I’m doing it anyway.  This is legitimately my favorite track in SMB3, but I’m including this video because this video has reduced me to tears laughing harder than any other video in my entire life.

  • Day 19: Cover by a Different Artist
  • Game: Super Mario Bros. 3
  •  Track: Athletic

I don’t really expect anyone else to find this as funny as me.  But I’m also not gonna “explain” the comedy behind this.  So, enjoy!
