Many of you probably know Magic: the Gathering is a big part of my life. Over the past 10 years it has been my hobby, my competitive passion, my social circle, and my career. Prior to Magic, I never owned a deck or went to a physical card shop. But I had played a few card game video games, one of which was Yu-Gi-Oh! The Eternal Duelist Soul on the Game Boy Advance.
- Day 9: Music from a Licensed Game
- Game: Yu-Gi-Oh! The Eternal Duelist Soul
- Track: Tier 1 Duel
This song is just so fun and catchy… but why is it in this game??? And why do I still remember it??? Nothing against YGO, but I would just never have expected such a great track from such an unassuming game. Props to the composer, I suppose!
Actually, who is the composer? My best guess based on limited info is Toshihisa Furusawa. This guy seems to be a composer for Konami who plays bass (not surprised) and works on various anime-adjacent projects. He also contributes to Nekomata Master? What a rad dude.
I do have one story from the game itself. The deck I had constructed was a Cyber-Stein OTK (one-turn kill) deck. I must’ve learned about it online, but it was basically a 2-card combo where you use Cyber-Stein to summon Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon and double its attack with Megamorph.
I was playing vs Seto Kaiba and I had the combo in hand. But Kaiba had a Swords of Revealing in play*, which basically meant I had to wait three turns, then kill him. So I waited the three turns and passed the turn back to Kaiba. He got one more turn, but it didn’t really matter because next turn I’d kill him in one turn. Except then Kaiba played his own Cyber-Stein, followed by his own Blue-Eyes and Megamorph, and I took 9000 to the face. I got Uno reverse carded.
* I don’t actually remember if it was exactly this card
