As previously written, 16-bit music is my favorite type of video game music. The SNES is my favorite childhood console, and SNES chiptunes were more-or-less how I initially developed my taste in music.
Chrono Trigger is one of my favorite SNES games, but is unusual in that I didn’t play it as a child. I played it in high school (post-Wii, in video games years), making it the only SNES games I’ve played start to finish after my childhood.
This story is short and dumb. When I was in high school, I would spend my idle time playing Chrono Trigger on my phone. Which also meant I played it on the toilet, so I started saying “I’m gonna go play some Chrono Trigger” when I was leaving to poop.
Chrono Trigger’s OST is one of the best on the SNES (I’d put it at #2). I could’ve picked any of its songs, but… actually it wasn’t a difficult decision.
- Day 16: 16-Bit Music
- Game: Chrono Trigger
- Track: Secret of the Forest
Secret of the Forest is probably the most beautiful SNES chiptune ever written. I don’t really know what else to say!
