I’m pretty tired and sleep-deprived. I wish I were more well-rested for such an important post as Boss Battle Music. But we’re on a schedule here so I’m workin’ with what I got.
- Day 15: Boss Battle Music
- Game: Persona 5
- Track: Blooming Villain
Persona 5 is the only Persona game I’ve played, but it was awesome. I’d recommend it to basically anyone. It’s one of the first games that comes to my mind when thinking of video games as art. Incredible art direction and music, fun characters, and a story that ends up saying a lot about society.
P5 has a jazzy soundtrack, which this track doesn’t show off particularly well? But it does do some cool things. I really like the creepy synth(?) they use at the beginning. It has some quality to it where, if you listen to it closely and ignore the rest of the song, you’ll notice it’s playing a higher pitch than the baseline would suggest. No idea if this technique has a name, but it’s also used in Ziltoidia Attaxx!!
Other than that, I also just generally like the flow of the song. Starts out creepy, then goes to a more heroic sounding guitar lead part, then back and forth. Kinda like how you’re taking turns back and forth with the boss!
